Baseball betting is becoming more popular each year. This is known as one of the sports where a smart bettor who practiced proper money management can make some really huge profits. Once a bettor begins to study and understand MLB baseball lines, he or she can gain a better understanding of how the bookies set their numbers.

In baseball betting, the moneyline is used, which is a little different than the point spread in football. Runline betting is also another form of baseball wagering that is increasing in popularity. The same applies to Totals betting (over/under) which completes the game scenario.

It is always best to shop around when looking for the best MLB baseball lines. Many different books release different numbers and baseball lines always tend to differ at each sportsbook.

With scoring way up and bullpens so bad baseball betting sportsbook has become much more difficult. In the good old days (actually just 5 years ago), all you had to do was study the starting pitching matchups and you could do pretty good for yourself in baseball betting.

Many handicappers are turning to what is called a "progression" style of baseball betting to win on straight baseball wagers. The theory is centralized around the three game series major league teams play against each other throughout the season.

It's impossible to handicap all the crazy, unpredictable things that are going to happen in a baseball game, but chances are the ball will bounce your way at least once over a 3 game period.

All baseball wagers include information on the pitchers. The starting pitcher is official after throwing the first pitch for a team in regulation play. You can select from the following pitcher options.

Action. This is betting your team against the other team regardless of which pitchers actually starts. If one or both pitchers change after the wager is made it is still action although the ticket price/payoff is subject to adjustment.

Listed. This is betting your team's pitcher against the other team's pitcher. If one or both pitchers change after the wager is made it is no action and all monies are returned to your available balance.

Selected. This is betting your team's pitcher against any pitcher on the other team. If the selected pitcher does not start then the wager is No Action and all monies are returned to your available balance. If the other team's pitcher changes then the wager is still action but subject to an adjusted price/payoff.

Opposition. This is betting your team versus a specified pitcher on the other team. If the opposition pitcher does not start then the wager is No Action and all monies are returned. If your team's pitcher changes then the wager is still action but subject to an adjusted price/payoff.

All baseball total and run line wagers are with listed pitchers only. If one or both pitchers change after the wager is made it is no action. In the event of a pitcher change prior to the start of the game all action, selected, and opposition baseball wagers are subject to an adjusted price/payoff provided they are still in action.

Baseball games do not have to go full regulation play for wagers to be action. Baseball games are official for wagering purposes according to the following:

  • Money lines after 4.5 innings if home team winning.
  • Money lines after 5 innings if visitor winning.
  • Totals/run lines after 8.5 innings if home team winning.
  • Totals/run lines after 9 innings if visitor team winning.
